Obituary of Richard Joseph Keir, Sr.

Richard Joseph Keir, Sr, of Roxbury Township, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown.

He was 80 years old.

Born in Central City, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and the late Mary (Adams) Keir, Rich lived in Rockaway, NJ prior to moving to Roxbury Township.

Prior to his retirement, he was a Security Officer for Lucent Technologies in Murray Hill, NJ. Also served with the Morris County Sheriff's Department, Chatham Police Department, a Detective with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, and a security officer for Shop Rite.

Rich was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, AA member and sponsor, volunteer Roxbury firefighter, founding member of the White Meadow Lake Fire Department, volunteer EMS with various towns, Deputy OEM Coordinator, Safety Officer, Representative for Roxbury Fire Relief Association, Life Member of NJ State Firemen's Association, Life Member NJ Exempt Association, Trustee for Roxbury Township Library Board, Alternate Member of Lake Hopatcong Commission, Member of Republican Committee of Morris County, Member of FOP North Jersey Lodge #18, Inactive Life Member of Roxbury Fire Co. #2 and safety officer. Besides volunteering, Rich loved spending time with his family, building turtle sand castles and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed family gatherings and holidays.

He is survived by his children: Susan Madar and Richard Joseph Keir, Jr. (Ingrid); fiancée: Bette Wines; ex-wife: Gail Keir (George Kulessa); grandchildren: Dylan (and Jamie) Keir, Mathew Keir, Sarah Keir (fiancé Justin Shortridge), Samantha Fallon (Bryan), Jessica Cobb (Tyler), and Allison Madar. Also survived by great grandchildren Liam and Addison Keir.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rich's Life Celebration on Friday November 17 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. A Firefighter's Service will be offered on Saturday November 18 beginning at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Firefighter's "Last Call" will immediately follow at Roxbury Fire Co. #2 on Shippenport Road in Landing.
